DCTPP1, also known as dCTP pyrophosphatase 1, contains an epilepsy-associated repeat (EAR) domain that is predicted to participate in protein-protein interactions, most likely involved in ligand recognition. This protein functions to hydrolyze abnormal nucleotide triphosphates (NTPs) in cancer cells that, if unregulated, could be incorporated into nascent DNA or RNA.

LZIC is a member of the CTNNBIP1 family. LZIC protein is universally expressed, with largest levels in kidney and up-regulated in various cases of gastric cancers. LZIC has no interaction with CTNNB1.

Angiotensin is an oligopeptide in the blood that causes vasoconstriction, increased blood pressure, and release of aldosterone from the adrenal cortex. It is a powerful dipsogen. It is derived from the precursor molecule angiotensinogen, a serum globulin produced in the liver. It plays an important role in the renin-angiotensin system.
The protein encoded by this gene, pre-angiotensinogen or angiotensinogen precursor, is expressed in the liver and is cleaved by the enzyme renin in response to lowered blood pressure. The resulting product, angiotensin I is then cleaved by angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) to generate the physiologically active enzyme angiotensin II. The protein is involved in maintaining blood pressure and in the pathogenesis of essential hypertension and preeclampsia.

Thrombin enzyme (Activated Factor IIa) is an important clotting promoter that controls the transformation of soluble fibrinogen to insoluble active fibrin strands. Thrombin is a coagulation protein and a serine protease (EC 3.4.21.5) that catalyzes many coagulation-related reactions. Thrombin triggers factor-XI, factor-V, Factor-XIII and factor-VIII. Thrombin endorses platelet activation, using activation of protease-activated receptors on the platelet. As a result of its high proteolytic specificity, thrombin has become an important biochemical protein. The thrombin cleavage site (Leu-Val-Pro-Arg-Gly-Ser) is widely used in linker regions of recombinant fusion protein constructs. After the purification of the fusion protein, thrombin is used to cleave between the Arginine and Glycine residues of the cleavage site, efficiently removing the purification tag from the protein of interest with a high degree of specificity.

Beta-lactamase is a type of enzyme (EC 3.5.2.6) produced by some bacteria that is responsible for their resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics like penicillins, cephalosporins, cephamycins and carbapenems. These antibiotics have a common element in their molecular structure: a four-atom ring known as a beta-lactam. The lactamase enzyme breaks that ring open, deactivating the molecule's antibacterial properties.

To infect host tissue, the habitual unicellular yeast-like form of C. albicans reacts to environmental signals and changes into an invasive, multicellular filamentous form, a phenomenon which is known as dimorphism.

Vaspin (visceral adipose-specific SERPIN), a newly identified adipokine, which is a member of serine protease inhibitor family. Vaspin is also a unique insulin sensitizing adipocytokine in obesity. A recent publication indicates that induction of human vaspin mRNA expression in adipose tissue is regulated in a fat depot-specific manner and could be associated with parameters of obesity, insulin resistance, and glucose metabolism.

The expression of PLAP was at firstconsidered to be onlyin the term placenta, though, a human PLAP-like variant has been found,thathas more than 85% homology with PLAP itself. PLAP is expressed strictly in normal term placenta, endocervix & fallopian tube and in ovarian and proximal gastrointestinal tumors. It is also widely expressed in germ cell tumors and more recently found in seminomas.

DECR1 is a mitochondrial protein which exists as a homotetramer and is a member of a family of short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases. DECR1 acts as an auxiliary enzyme of beta-oxidation andt partakes in the metabolism of unsaturated fatty enoyl-CoA esters. in particular, DECR1 uses NADP+ to catalyze the reduction of 2,4-dienoyl-CoA to yield trans-3-enoyl-CoA that can subsequently be used as an intermediate in the Krebs cycle. Furthermore, DECR1 is believed to work as a tumor suppressor, possibly downregulating the expression of Neu and slowing the rate of tumorigenesis.

Hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA lyase (HMGCL) is a mitochondrial matrix protein which is a member of the HMG-CoA lyase family. HMGCL is a homodimer and participates in leucine catabolism and ketogenesis, the hepatic synthesis of ketone bodies which, during fasting, provides a major source of energy for the heart, brain and kidney. More precisely, HMGCL catalyzes the final step of these processes, the cleavage of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA to acetoacetic acid and acetyl-CoA.

Tissue-type transglutaminase (tTG) is believed to be the predominant autoantigen for celiac disease and the corresponding autoantibodies show higher sensitivity and specificity than anti-gliadin antibodies. Highly pure recombinant human tTG is now available to replace the traditionally used tTG fraction from guinea pig.
Tissue-type transglutaminase antigens have been specifically modified for improved handling: exchange of an active site amino acid eliminates the protein cross-linking activity of the enzyme, while maintaining the native three-dimensional structure and the enzyme's secondary GTPase activity. E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase SIAH1 (SIAH1) belongs to the SIAH (seven in absentia homolog) family. SIAH1 is a tumor suppressor protein, which is expressed in intestinal epithelium and activated during apoptosis. SIAH1 is involved in ubiquitination and proteasome-mediated degradation of specific proteins. SIAH1 is comprised of an N-terminal RING-finger domain (required for proteolysis) and a cystein-rich C-terminal domain (which regulates oligomerization and SIAH binding to target proteins). SIAH1 causes indirect degradation of beta-catenin by way of creation of a complex with Siah-interacting protein (SIP), Skp1 and Ebi.

Prostaglandin Reductase 2 (PTGR2) is a member of the medium-chain dehydrogenase/reductase superfamily. PTGR2 is an enzyme involved in the metabolism of prostaglandins. PTGR2 catalyzes an NADPH-dependent reduction of the conjugated alpha, beta-unsaturated double bond of 15-keto-PGE(2), which is a fundamental step in terminal inactivation of prostaglandins and suppression of PPARgamma-mediated adipocyte differentiation. PTGR2 may also be involved in controlling activation of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor.

Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are a large family of zinc metalloenzymes which catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. These metalloenzymes participate in various biological processes, including respiration, calcification, acid-base balance, bone resorption, and the formation of aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva, and gastric acid. The metalloenzymes exhibit extensive diversity in tissue distribution and in their subcellular localization. Carbonic Anhydrase XI (CA11) is probably a secreted protein, nevertheless, drastic changes at active site residues completely conserved in CA isozymes with catalytic activity, make it unlikely that CA11 has carbonic anhydrase activity. CA11 shares properties in common with 2 other acatalytic CA isoforms, CA VIII and CA X. CA11 is amply expressed in the brain, and may have a general role in the central nervous system.

Lysophospholipase-like protein 1 (LYPLAL1) is a member of the AB hydrolase 2 family. LYPLAL1 doesn’t exhibit phospholipase nor triacylglycerol lipase activity, able to hydrolyze only short chain substrates as a result of its shallow active site.

Prostaglandin Reductase 1 (PTGR1) is a member of the NADP-dependent oxidoreductase L4BD family. PTGR1 catalyzes the conversion of leukotriene B4 into its biologically less active metabolite, 12-oxo-leukotriene B4, thus being a primary step of metabolic inactivation of leukotriene B4. PTGR1 is highly expressed in the kidney, liver, and intestine but not in leukocytes.

RNASE2, also known as EDN, is best-known as one of the 4 major proteins found in the large specific granules of human eosinophilic leukocytes. This protein is also expressed constitutively in human liver tissue and its expression can be induced in macrophages by proinflammatory stimuli. RNASE2 is a non-secretory ribonuclease which belongs to the pancreatic ribonuclease family, a subset of the ribonuclease A superfamily. Diseases associated with EDN include Dermatitis, Atopic, 8 and Pulmonary Eosinophilia.

Phospholipase A1 Member A (PLA1A) is a phospholipase which hydrolyzes fatty acids at the sn-1 position of phosphatidylserine and 1-acyl-2-lysophosphatidylserine. The secreted PLA1A protein hydrolyzes phosphatidylserine in liposomes. PLA1A hydrolyzes phosphatidylserine (PS) in the form of liposomes and 1-acyl-2 lysophosphatidylserine (lyso-PS), but not triolein, phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidic acid (PA) or phosphatidylinositol (PI). PLA1A isoform 2 hydrolyzes lyso-PS but not PS. The hydrolysis of lyso-PS in peritoneal mast cells activated by receptors for IgE leads to stimulation of histamine production.

Myeloperoxidase is an important enzyme used by granulocytes during phagocytic lysis of foreign particles engulfed. In normal tissues and in a variety of myeloproliferative disorders myeloid cells of both neutrophilic and eosinophilic types, at all stages of maturation, exhibit strong cytoplasmic reactivity for MPO. Erythroid precursors, megakaryocytes, lymphoid cells, mast cells, and plasma cells are nonreactive. MPO is not observed in the neoplastic cells of a wide variety of epithelial tumors and sarcomas. MPO is useful in differentiating between myeloid and lymphoid leukemias.

Deoxyribose-phosphate aldolase (DERA) is a member of the deoC/fbaB aldolase protein family involved in the carbohydrate degradation pathway. DERA catalyzes the conversion of 2-deoxy-D-ribose 5-phosphate to D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate and an acetyldehyde.

Iduronate 2-Sulfatase also known as IDS, belongs to the highly-conserved sulfatase family of enzymes which catalyze the hydrolysis of O-sulfate and N-salfate esters from a variety of substrates. IDS is essential for the lysosomal degradation of the glycosaminoglycans (GAG) heparan sulfate as well as dermatan sulfate. Furthermore, IDS hydrolyzes the 2-sulfate group of the IDS units of the GAG.

Proteasome subunit beta type-2 (PSMB2) belongs to the proteasome T1B family, which is a 20S core beta subunit. The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure. Proteasomes are spread throughout eukaryotic cells at a high concentration and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent process in a non-lysosomal pathway. A crucial function of a modified proteasome, the immunoproteasome, is the processing of class I MHC peptides. PSMB2 is up-regulated in ovarian cancer cell lines.
