Chitodextrinase is a unique membrane-bound endoenzyme. The chitodextrinase enzyme cleaves soluble oligomers, but not chitin, to the di- and trisaccharides. Chitodextrinase is unable to solubilize chitin, but it can catalyze the hydrolysis of high to low molecular weight soluble chitin oligosaccharides.

Glutamyl endopeptidase (GLU-C) is an enzyme which cleaves peptide bonds on the carboxyl-terminal side of glutamic acid and, less frequently, aspartic acid (for example: Glu-|-Xaa, Asp-|-Xaa). GLU-C is a pathogenic factor involved in the adherence and colonization of human tissue. GLU-C preferentially cleaves peptide bonds on the carboxyl-terminal side of aspartate and glutamate. GLU-C is required for proteolytic maturation of thiol protease SspB and inactivation of SspC, an inhibitor of SspB. GLU-C is the most important protease for degradation of fibronectin-binding protein (FnBP) and surface protein A, which are involved in adherence to host cells. Furthermore, GLU-C protects bacteria against host defense mechanism by cleaving the immunoglobulin classes IgG, IgA and IgM. GLU-C may also be involved in the stability of secreted lipases.

RELM-beta (Resistin-Like Molecule-beta) is a member of a recently identified family of secreted proteins containing a conserved cystein-rich C-terminus. The RELM family consists of resistin (also called FIZZ3), RELM-alfa (FIZZ1), RELM-beta (FIZZ2) and RELM-gamma. Only resisistin and RELM-beta were found in humans whereas all four RELM family members were identified in rodents.
RELM-beta appears to be produced as a homodimer exclusively by intestinal goblet cells and can be found in high quantities in stool. Remarkably, stool of germ-free mice displaying sterile intestinal tract does not contain RELM-beta until bacterial colonization takes place after pathogen-free mice entered natural environment. Some, but not all, colon carcinoma cell lines secrete RELM-beta into the cell culture supernatant.
The physiological function of RELM-beta is not known. High doses of recombinant RELM-beta showed hyperglycemic effects including lowered glucose disposal and increased hepatic glucose production in mice.

Norovirus is extremely contagious and can spread from human to human through infected food, water or contaminated surfaces. The outbreaks usually occur from November-April, while the peak is in January. Norovirus is a positive sense RNA virus with 7.5 kb nucleotides, encoding a major structural protein VP1 with 50-55kDa. The full length of VP1 capsid comprises the internal N-terminal, Hinge, shell (S) and protruding (P) domains. P domain from 225 to 520 forms P1- P2-P1 structure. Because of their redistribution or increased levels in human and animal tumors, cathepsins may have a role in invasion and metastasis. Cathepsins are synthesized as inactive proenzymes and processed to become mature and active enzymes. Endogenous protein inhibitors, such as cystatins and some serpins, inhibit active enzymes.
