    • Introduction

      The cytokine IL-1 alpha or hematopoietin 1 is a member to the interleukin 1 family, encoded by the IL1A gene in humans. Essentially Il-1 is in charge of inflammation and the rising of fever and sepsis. In order to disturb the mentioned processes and treatment for diseases, inhibitors for Interleukin 1 alpha are being developed. Neutrophils and macrophages are the main activators of IL-1 alpha, as well as endothelial and epithelial cells. By binding to the il1 receptor it is a major part in the immune response regulation. In the activation process of tumor necrosis factor-alpha the IL1A has a part as well, and has physiological, metabolic and hematopoietic activities.

    • Introduction

      At least 23 different variants of IFN-alpha are known. The individual proteins have molecular masses between 19-26 kDa and consist of proteins with lengths of 156-166 and 172 amino acids. All IFN-alpha subtypes possess a common conserved sequence region between amino acid positions 115-151 while the amino-terminal ends are variable. Many IFN-alpha subtypes differ in their sequences at only one or two positions. Naturally occurring variants also include proteins truncated by 10 amino acids at the carboxy-terminal end.

      Interleukin-1 ra is a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family. This protein inhibits the activities of interleukin 1, alpha (IL1A) and interleukin 1, beta (IL1B), and modulates a variety of interleukin 1 related immune and inflammatory responses. This gene and five other closely related cytokine genes form a gene cluster spanning approximately 400 kb on chromosome 2. A polymorphism of this gene is reported to be associated with increased risk of osteoporotic fractures and gastric cancer. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.

      Chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 1 (CXCL1) is a small cytokine belonging to the CXC chemokine family that was previously called GRO1 oncogene, Neutrophil-activating protein 3 (NAP-3) and melanoma growth stimulating activity, alpha (MSGA-a). It is secreted by human melanoma cells, has mitogenic properties and is implicated in melanoma pathogenesis. CXCL1 is expressed by macrophages, neutrophils and epithelial cells, and has neutrophil chemoattractant activity.       MCP-5 (CCL12) is a cloned mouse CC chemokine most closely related to human MCP1 (66% amino acid sequence identity in the mature protein). MCP5 is expressed constitutively in the thymus and the lymph nodes. Under inflammatory conditions, moreover CCL12 expression is induced in activated macrophages and mast cells.
