Macrophage Inflammatory Proteins (MIP) belong to the family of chemotactic cytokines known as chemokines. In humans, there are two major forms, MIP-1a and MIP-1b that are now officially named CCL3 and CCL4 respectively. Both are major factors produced by macrophages after they are stimulated with bacterial endotoxins. They activate human granulocytes (neutrophils, eosinophils and basophils) which can lead to acute neutrophilic inflammation. They also induce the synthesis and release of other pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin 1 (IL-1), IL-6 and TNF-a from fibroblasts and macrophages. The genes for CCL3 and CCL4 are both located on human chromosome 17.

Chromgranin-A is part of the neuroendocrine secretory protein family. CHGA is located in secretory vesicles of neurons and endocrine cells. Chromgranin-A is a precursor to three biologically active peptides; vasostatin, pancreastatin, and parastatin. These peptides act as autocrine or paracrine negative modulators of the neuroendocrine system. Other peptides, including chromostatin, beta-granin, WE-14 and GE-25, are also derived from the full-length protein. Chromgranin-A has numerous biological activities on some tissues and organs and exerts a large spectrum of homeostatic actions, including antifungal and antimicrobial effect, modulation of cell adhesion, and inhibition of parathyroid hormone secretion.

Bcl-XL is a transmembrane protein located in the mitochondrial membranes of cells that are long-lived and postmitotic, such as adult brain cells. Bcl-XL is an anti-apoptotic protein which is a member of the Bcl-2 family which are able to form heterodimers, and this is an significant event in the regulation of apoptosis. Cystathionine gamma-lyase or cystathionase (CTH) is a member of the trans-sulfuration enzymes family. CTH is an enzyme which breaks down cystathionine into cysteine and alpha-ketobutyrate. The CTH catalyzes the last step in the transsulfuration pathway from methionine to cysteine. Glutathione synthesis in the liver is dependent upon the availability of cysteine. Mutations in the CTH gene cause cystathioninuria.

GNRH1 also known as Luteinising-hormone releasing hormone (LHRH), is a peptide hormone responsible for the release of FSH and LH from the anterior pituitary. GNRH1 is synthesized and released by the hypothalamus.
