    • Introduction

Aldolase C Fructose-Bisphosphate (ALDOC) belongs to the class I fructose-bisphosphate aldolase family. ALDOC is a glycolytic enzyme which catalyzes the reversible aldol cleavage of fructose-1,6-biphosphate and fructose 1-phosphate to dihydroxyacetone phosphate and either glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate or glyceraldehydes respectively. ALDOC is expressed exclusively in the hippocampus and Purkinje cells of the brain.

    • Synonyms

      Aldolase, Fructose-Bisphosphate C, Aldolase C, Fructose-Bisphosphate, Brain-Type Aldolase, EC 4.1.2.13, ALDC, Fructose-1,6-Biphosphate Triosephosphate Lyase, Fructose-Bisphosphate Aldolase C, Fructoaldolase C, Aldolase 3, ALDOC .

    • Physical Appearance

      Sterile Filtered clear solution.

    • Stability

Store at 4°C if entire vial will be used within 2-4 weeks. Store, frozen at -20°C for longer periods of time. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA).Avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles.

    • Introduction

Aldolase A (ALDOA) is a glycolytic enzyme, which catalyzes the reversible conversion of fructose-1,6-bisphosphate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate. ALDOA is found in the developing embryo and is produced in even greater amounts in adult muscle. ALDOA expression is repressed in the adult liver, kidney and intestine and similar to ALDOC levels in the brain and other nervous tissue. ALDOA deficiency has been linked with myopathy and hemolytic anemia.

    • Synonyms

      Fructose-bisphosphate aldolase A, Muscle-type aldolase, Lung cancer antigen NY-LU-1, ALDOA, ALDA, EC 4.1.2.13, GSD12, MGC10942, MGC17716, MGC17767, Aldolase-A.

    • Introduction

N-acetylneuraminate lyase (NanA) is a member of a family of lyases, specifically the oxo-acid-lyases, which cleave carbon-carbon bonds. NanA catalyzes the cleavage of N-acetylneuraminic acid (sialic acid) to form pyruvate and N-acetyl-D-mannosamine. NanA is inhibited by reduction with NaBH4 in the presence of the substrate, which indicates that it belongs to the Schiff-base-forming Class I aldolases. NanA is strongly inhibited by Cu2+ ions, p-chloromercuribenzoate and N-bromosuccinimide, it is also inhibited competitively by the reaction product, pyruvate, and its structurally related compounds, dihydroxyacetone and DL-glyceraldehyde.

ALDH1A1 is part of the aldehyde dehydrogenases family.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase is the 2nd protein of the main oxidative pathway of alcohol metabolism. Cytosolic and mitochondrial are 2 main liver isoforms of ALDH that are differentiateed by their electrophoretic mobility, kinetic property, & subcellular localization. The majority of Caucasians have two main isozymes, whereas just about 50% of Orientals have only the cytosolic form, excluding the mitochondrial form. ALDH1A1 is also a member of the group of corneal crystallins that assist the transparency of the cornea.

    • Introduction

ALDH2 is part of the aldehyde dehydrogenase family of proteins which catalyze the chemical transformation from acetaldehyde to acetic acid. ALDH2 is the second enzyme of the major oxidative pathway of alcohol metabolism. ALDH2 has 2 major liver isoforms: cytosolic and mitochondrial, which differ by their electrophoretic mobilities, kinetic properties, and subcellular localizations. Nearly all Caucasians have 2 major isozymes, whereas roughly 50% of Orientals have only the cytosolic isozyme, omitting the mitochondrial isozyme. The extremely higher rate of acute alcohol intoxication with Orientals compared to Caucasians is due to the fact of the absence of mitochondrial isozyme. ALDH2 has a low Km for acetaldehydes, and is localized in mitochondrial matrix.

    • Introduction

ALDH5A1 is a mitochondrial NAD(+)-dependent succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase, which is a member of the aldehyde dehydrogenase family of proteins. The ALDH5A1 protein functions as a mediator to the NADP+-dependent oxidation of aldehydes into acids and has an imperative role in the detoxification of alcohol-derived acetaldehyde, as well as in lipid peroxidation and in the metabolism of corticosteroids, biogenic amines and neurotransmitters. ALDH5A1 is expressed in various tissues, including the liver, heart, lung, brain, kidney and placenta. Deficiency in the ALDH5A1 enzyme, known as 4-hydroxybutyricaciduria, is a rare inborn error in the metabolism of the neurotransmitter 4-aminobutyric acid (GABA). In response to this defect, physiologic fluids from patients accumulate GHB, which is a compound with numerous neuromodulatory properties.

    • Introduction

Aldo-keto reductase family 1 member D1 (AKR1D1) belongs to the AKR superfamily. The AKR family proteins are soluble NADPH oxidoreductases, which have vital roles in the metabolism of drugs, carcinogens and reactive aldehydes. AKR1D1 is also responsible for the catalysis of the 5-beta-reduction of bile acid intermediates and steroid hormones that carry a delta (4)-3-1 structure. AKR1D1 is highly expressed in the liver, colon and testis. Deficiency of the AKR1D1 enzyme may contribute to hepatic dysfunction.

    • Introduction

AKR1B10 efficiently reduces aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes, and it is less active on hexoses. AKR1B10 is highly expressed in adrenal gland, small intestine, and colon, and may play an important role in liver carcinogenesis. AKR1B10 is a monomeric protein that competently catalyzes the reduction of aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes and ketones. AKR1B10 is widely expressed in numerous human tissues, small intestine, colon and adrenal gland.
