Alkaline phosphatase also known as basic phosphatase is anenzyme with homodimer structure. Every monomer unit holds 5 cysteine residues, 2 zinc atoms & a magnesium atom which are critical to the catalytic function of the enzyme, also, it is important for the enzyme’s activity in alkaline pH. Alkaline phosphatase dephosphorylates compounds as its main role. The enzyme is active in a large quantity of prokaryotes and eukaryotes organisms, with a constant function but in various structural forms suited to the environment they are active in.
